Five Favourite Instagramers That Paint

I've been an Instagramer for way over a year now sharing my art for others to see, but what I love about Instagram is the never-ending stream of inspiration I get from it. I find it is such a great place to come across some fantastic artists ranging from Painting to Photography, Drawing to Fashion and Illustration to Sculpture, so I figured I would share some of my favourite Instagram accounts with you. Todays 'Top 5' (although in no particular order) are all painters that definitely deserve a quick delve into.

Antonymicallef is a contemporary artist recognised for his self-portraits composed of thick, opaque paint in a style similar to Frank Auerbach. His self-portrait series focuses on himself and the medium he works with using thick, overlapping brushstrokes to make up a dialogue of himself.  I love the raw fleshy colours he uses in his portraits as it looks like a vicious assault on the canvas that makes for some beautifully painted portraits.

Davidmyrvold's bright, abstract paintings are inspired by the outdoors and landscapes, often with gut feelings taking place within them. The black line within his works can be seen as a reference to the veins of a leaf, with trees being a big influence in the paintings and titles of his works. I really enjoy David Myrvold's posts as they are vibrant, playful and a pleasure to look at.

Nelovinuesa is a Spanish artist who paints beautiful landscapes incorporating flat, bright, geometric shapes referencing architecture and nature. He seems to combine thin, transparent and gestural brush strokes with solid tone to make up his compositions that provides for a fresh style of landscape painting. I love his darker, black and grey landscapes with bursts of vivid colours such as red, blue and yellow because of the bigger difference in contrast.

Ted_Collier is a restaurant owner and fine artist who, first and foremost, paints for himself. Often adopting a Ouija board type method of working he uses materials such as squeegee's to find his compositions. The only thing he does properly plan out is his colour, using swatches to find the right colours that make him happy. I love his abstract, circular paintings because of the fluid gesture, but you can't really appreciate the size of them from the small Instagram squares on your iPhone.

Travis_chapman_artist describes his work as 'art with a twist' and it is exactly that. His paintings often contain pop and celebrity culture themes in ironic situations such as Edward Scissorhands in a blow up lifeboat. His beautifully painted landscapes sometimes include intentional tongue-in-cheek additions to subtly mention current moments in the news. I really like his acrylic paintings because of the quality of painting and comedic value they have to share.

So that concludes my Five Favourite Instagramers That Paint post which are based on my current opinion. There are so many other great painters out there on Instagram, these are just a taste of the ones I personally love! What do you think of this selection and who are your personal favourites? I'd love to know what you have to share! Clicking the name of each artist takes you to their personal Instagram account and you can also find a link to mine here.
